11992243_1489234544724209_162998387_nWhen it comes to wound care, necrotic tissue are words that can stop any horse owner in their tracks. In addition to sounding bad, it can really be a bummer for your horse. Necrotic Tissue is tissue that is no longer healthy and alive. The tissue usually dies due to lack of blood supply.

When necrotic tissue forms, the healing process of wounds can not fully complete. Infection can set in and proud flesh can also form. If your horse has in injury with necrotic tissue, there are a few steps you can take to ensure proper healing.

If the wound is infected, first make sure the entire wound is cleaned. Next, check for any foreign objects that might be in the wound. Dirt, bacteria and fragments can all impede the healing process.  Once the wound is completely cleaned, it is important to check and see if proud flesh has formed. To learn more about proud flesh, click here! Occasionally, proud flesh will have to be cut away by your veterinarian.

Precision PES-Derm can help in a number of ways. Precision PES-Derm™ is the only wound care gel on the market to have it’s combination of ingredients. The combination of Benzalkonium Chloride and Natural Egg Membrane not only kills 99.9% of bacterial and fungus but increases the regrowth in healthy tissue at an amazing rate!

If you treat wounds from the start with Precision PES-Derm™, necrotic tissue will not be an issue as healthy skin growth is promoted by encouraging cellular formation and healthy blood flow. If necrotic tissue forms, Precision PES-Derm™ can support the regrow healthy tissue while effectively debriding any dead tissue.  Egg membrane is one of the most powerful new ingredients on the market today. Recent studies show that the proteins that are found in the egg membrane such as transforming growth factor-B, elastin, collagen, lyozyme, and glucosamines can induce skin healing on wounds of most size and severity.

Below is the injury on the front of a hock. They had been treating the injury for several months with every wound healing product they could find on the market. However the proudflesh and necrotic tissue continued to expand.
